Our Journey
Rooted in Legacy, rising with purpose. Born from a shared vision in 2018 by the Hon. Audrey P. Marks, then Ambassador of Jamaica to the United States, Dr. Wayne A. I. Frederick, then the 17th President of Howard University, and Don Christian, our Chairman. The Jamaica Howard University Affinity Network (JHUAN) was formed to uplift, empower, and ignite the brilliance of Jamaican students at Howard University. Through transformative scholarships, dynamic mentorship, and career-shaping opportunities, we champion academic excellence and personal growth. We see every Jamaican student not just as a scholar, but as a future leader—ready to shape industries, communities, and the world. At JHUAN, we don’t just open doors—we build bridges. We believe in the boundless potential of our students and are committed to nurturing their journey from campus to global impact. Together, we rise—rooted in Jamaican pride, fueled by Howard legacy, and driven by the promise of tomorrow.

JHUAN'S MISSION

Empowering the Next Generation of Jamaican Leaders at Howard

In 2025, JHUAN proudly supported 26 scholars from diverse academic backgrounds, including Engineering, Medicine, Business, and Law. These students range from sophomores to graduate-level scholars, with juniors making up the largest group.

Mentorship is a cornerstone of JHUAN’s impact—20+ students have been paired with expert mentors, leading to 100+ hours of career guidance and networking opportunities.

JHUAN’s commitment to academic success has led to a 100% graduation rate among scholarship recipients. In just seven years, and with the support of the Jamaican Embassy and our generous donors, we have awarded $463,000+ in scholarships—helping students overcome financial barriers to complete their education at Howard University.
